Chhattisgarh: A church was vandalized on Monday, January 2. Now taking action, the Narayanpur police have arrested five accused. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) district president Rupsai Salam is also included in the arrested accused.
According to India Today’s Sumi Rajappan, the police have booked all the accused under various IPC sections, including promoting enmity between different groups on the grounds of religion, damaging a place of worship with intent to insult any religion, rioting, and possessing arms. The people of the society protested about this. In Gorra village of the Edka police station area, all tribal communities and Christian tribals came face to face regarding this matter of conversion. After this, there was a lot of unrest. Many people were injured in the fight.

In protest against this incident, Sarv Adivasi Samaj called a bandh in Narayanpur on the next day, i.e., Monday, January 2. A large number of people participated in it. A rally was taken out from the marketplace of Narayanpur. It is said that during the rally, some people reached the church and started vandalizing it. The police team was already deployed. In such a situation, he tried to convince the protesters. But the crowd got angry and attacked SP Sadanand Kumar. Due to this, there was a serious injury to his head. Apart from the SP, six other policemen were injured during this period.

According to India Today’s Sumi Rajappan, Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P told the agency that around 2,000 people were present during the meeting in Narayanpur. Local tribal leaders Rupsai Salam, Narayan Markam, and others led it. After the meeting, the crowd split into groups. Armed with sticks, the mob attacked the church located in a school. They broke into the church and ransacked it. The IG further said that after this violence, many police officers were deployed in Narayanpur, about 300 km from the capital Raipur, Chhatisgarh.
