Britney Spears and her partner Sam Asghari have shared the news that the pop singer had a miscarriage during pregnancy.
Britney Spears revealed she was pregnant with the couple’s first child in April.
Britney Spears shared the news of her miscarriage in an Instagram post on Saturday (May 14).
“It is with deep sadness that we announce that we have lost our miraculous baby early in pregnancy,” she wrote. “This is a devastating time for any parent.”
The singer continued: “Perhaps we should have waited to announce it until we were more advanced, however, we were too excited to share the good news.”
“Our love for each other is our strength. We will continue to try to expand our beautiful family.”
Britney Spears concluded, “We are grateful for all your support. We kindly ask for your privacy during this difficult time.”
Fans have flooded the comments section of Spears’ Instagram post to share their condolences and good wishes for the couple.
The singer shares her sons Sean, 16, and Jayden, 15, with her ex-husband Kevin Federline.
In April, the Grammy winner announced that she was expecting a child with her partner Asghari, to whom she has been engaged since September 2021.
The 40-year-old revealed she had taken a pregnancy test after gaining weight during a vacation in Hawaii.
The announcement of her pregnancy came shortly after she hinted at the possibility of having more children in an Instagram post. She posed topless at sea with the caption: “Planning to have babies in Polynesia.”
The post came after Britney Spears alleged during a court hearing in Los Angeles that she was not allowed to remove her IUD implant contraceptive device during her 13-year guardianship, despite wanting to have more children.
“Right now I have an IUD on my body that doesn’t allow me to have a baby and my guardians won’t let me go to the doctor to take it off,” she told the court in June 2021. “I feel attacked. I feel harassed and I feel abandoned and alone.”
“I want to be able to get married and have a baby,” she added.
