Kate Moss will appear as a witness in the trial that pits actor Johnny Depp against his ex-wife, fellow actress Amber Heard after she mentioned Moss before the popular jury.
According to CNN, Moss will intervene on Wednesday in the courthouse of Fairfax (Virginia, USA), where he will go at the request of the lawyers of Johnny Depp, with whom he had a romantic relationship between 1994 and 1998.
Coincidentally, Heard herself led to the model intervening in the trial. When describing an altercation between Johnny Depp and her sister, she said it “reminded” her of a rumor by which the actor allegedly pushed Moss down the stairs.
“I didn’t hesitate, I didn’t wait. I immediately thought about Kate Moss and the stairs, and I hit her,” Heard said after acknowledging that he hit the actor to defend his sister while the two were arguing.
Such words were celebrated by Depp’s lawyers inside the courthouse since, according to the American press, Kate Moss maintained a good relationship with the actor, and the mere mention of the incident allowed the model to be included in the list of witnesses.
However, there were altercations during Moss and Depp’s romance. According to a chronicle published by The New York Times in 1994, New York police arrested the actor after he destroyed a hotel room where the model was also staying, who never presented herself as a victim of violence.
Heard’s defense declined Monday to request that Depp testify again as a witness in the trial, which faces its final week before the jury meets to deliberate.
In addition to Heard and Depp, whose statements lasted several days during the four weeks of trial, psychologists, police, representatives, domestic workers, and even the couple’s therapist have intervened, who insisted that the abuse was “mutual” on the part of both.
Last week, Whitney Henriquez, Heard’s sister, said she saw Depp repeatedly punch the actress during an argument in the couple’s attic in March 2015. She is, for the moment, the only witness who claims to have seen Depp hit Heard.
On April 11, the legal battle began. The actor accused his ex-wife of defamation for an article she published in The Washington Post in 2018, after their divorce, in which he claimed to have suffered “domestic abuse” without mentioning him.
Johnny Depp is seeking $50 million in compensation. For his part, Heard responded with a counterclaim in which he alleges that Depp has promoted a smear campaign against him and claims 100 million.
It is the first time the two celebrities faced each other before the justice: in the trial held in 2020 in London. Depp lost, and the actress came as a witness since the accusation was against the British newspaper The Sun for an article that described the actor as an “aggressor of women.”
