We continue to explore the unknowns of the Tokien universe that inspires the Amazon Prime Video series. Today we focus on the figure of Adar.
As the weeks go by, fans of Tolkien’s work see how the amount of information we receive through each episode of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, the new and successful Amazon Prime Video series, expands. And one of the themes of the moment focuses on the figure of Adar, an evil character who is mentioned in the third chapter . We are sure that it will not take long for him to appear and he will probably have a nasty face, but who is he and what is his origin?
Adar, the leader of the orcs
The third episode of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, the orcs seem to revere an unknown—for now—named Adar. It is not surprising that he does, since it is nothing more and nothing less than his leader, something like the patriarch of the South Lands . As a curiosity, in Sindarin, the most common language among the elves, the meaning of Adar is ‘Father’.
As you well know, the origin of the orcs is uncertain and regularly becomes the subject of debate, as there are many theories and legends spread within Tolkien’s universe. Among all, the most widespread in The Silmarillion is that they were created as a result of the corruption of Melkor / Morgoth , mixing genes from humans and elves. We will soon find out what relationship he has with this enigmatic villain.
Adar, played by actor Joseph Mawle (Game of Thrones), is desperately searching for a mysterious talisman that will surely play a fundamental role in the future of history. He will have to wait a bit to put a face on him. In just a few days episode 4 will be available.
