Punjabi singer and Congress leader Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu Moose Wala was shot dead near Mansa on Sunday. The 27-year-old was allegedly shot at least 10 times near a temple in the village of Jhawahar, and was declared brought dead at the Civil Hospital in Mansa.
This is when Moose Wala’s security was cut. He was among the politicians in Punjab who lost their security as part of the Bhagwant Mann government’s exercise to crack down on VIP culture.
After Moose Wala’s death, people can be seen shouting slogans against the Punjab government at Mansa Hospital.
Sidhu Moose Wala was a resident of Musa village near Mansa and was the voice of many superhit songs in the last few years. Moose Wala had contested the assembly elections from Mansa on a Congress ticket. He was defeated by Dr. Vijay Singla of AAP by a margin of 63,323 votes.
Moose Wala had joined the Congress in November last year with much fanfare. With the Congress giving him a ticket from the Mansa assembly constituency, then Mansa MLA Nazar Singh Manshahia rebelled against the party, saying he would oppose the controversial singer’s candidature.
Soon after the news of Moose Wala’s death, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “Deeply shocked and saddened by the murder of Sidhu Moosewala, a promising Congress leader and talented artist. My heartfelt condolences to his fans and fans around the world.”
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann appealed for peace and said that no criminal will be spared. “I am deeply saddened and shocked by the horrific murder of Sidhu Moose Wala..No culprit will be spared..My heartfelt condolences and prayers are with his family and his fans across the world..Appeal to all to remain calm, ” he tweeted.
Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday appealed for peace after Punjabi singer and Congress member Sidhu Musewala was shot dead in Punjab’s Mansa.
“The killing of Sidhu Musewala is sad and very shocking. I have spoken to Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann. The culprits will be given the harshest punishment. I request all of you to be strong and maintain peace. May his soul rest in peace,” Kejriwal tweeted.
Moose Wala’s security cover was cut recently
Sidhu Moose Wala was among hundreds of public figures whose security cover has been withdrawn or reduced since AAP came to power in Punjab. The first such order came on March 12, and the latest directive was on May 28. While some sections have lauded this “action on VIP culture”, others have claimed that the move is in danger, especially in the names of those who have lost their security cover. publicly shared.
BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa blamed Kejriwal and Mann for the murder of Musewala.
“Sidhu Moose Wala was a lead singer. Due to the dirty politics of Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann, he was attacked with a deadly attack, in which he lost his life. First, they take back people’s protections and then publish their names. I warned that it could be dangerous,” Sirsa said.
Sirsa had on Saturday shared two pages of a document that listed those whose security was either being withdrawn or downgraded by the Punjab Police. He alleged that the document was leaked despite being confidential and it was a threat to the security of those whose names were on the list.
