The highly-anticipated box-offie clash between ‘Gadar 2’ and ‘OMG 2’ has caught everyone’s attention. While the sequel to the 2001 blockbuster ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ has successfully managed to enter the Rs 200 crore club, the second instalment to 2012 ‘OMG – Oh My God!’ has barely crossed the Rs 70 crore-mark at the box-office.

‘Gadar 2’ vs ‘OMG 2’ Day 5 box-office collection: Sunny Deol-starrer enters Rs 200 cr club, Akshay Kumar’s film earns Rs 72 cr
The ‘Gadar 2’ makers took to social media to announce that the Anil Sharma directorial has earned Rs 228.98 crore in the domestic market. The press statement said that ‘Gadar 2’ has shattered “records and emerged as an unprecedented cinematic triumph, setting a new benchmark” in Indian cinema.
Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh said that the movie created history on Independence Day (Rs 55.40 crore) with the highest-ever business recorded on August 15. “‘Gadar2’ hits the ball out of the stadium on Independence Day,” he tweeted.

The movie collected Rs 40.10 crore on the opening day (Friday) and recorded Rs 43.08 crore on Saturday and Rs 51.70 crore on Sunday for the first weekend. On Monday, it made Rs 38.70 crore.
Adarsh said that ‘Gadar 2’ faced capacity issues at single screens and multiplexes on Independence Day. He said ‘Gadar 2’ could have been a massive success if it was a solo release.
“The demand is clearly more than supply in this case, since ‘OMG 2’ has taken away a substantial number of screens, shows, footfalls and revenue,” he said.
Another film trade analyst Sumit Kadel said that experts are comparing ‘Gadar 2’ collections with those of ‘Pathaan’, which made more than Rs 1,000 crore at the box-office.
Kadel also said that ‘Gadar 2’ collection suggests more than Rs 30 cr (nett) in Wednesday’s early predictions.

Produced by Zee Studios, the movie features Deol in his iconic role of Tara Singh from his 2001 film. It also stars Ameesha Patel returning as Sakeena and Ukarsh Sharma as Charanjeet.
Set in 1971, ‘Gadar 2’ follows Tara Singh’s journey to Pakistan to rescue his son, Charanjeet aka Jeetey, from the Pakistani Army. The original film was set during the Partition.
Meanwhile, ‘OMG 2’ showed a jump of Rs 17.10 crore on Tuesday, taking the total collection to Rs 72.27 crore.
Despite tough competition from ‘Gadar 2’, Adarsh said that ‘OMG 2’ is trending exceptionally well on Independence Day. “Let’s face it, the clash with ‘Gadar 2’ has eroded its true potential… ‘OMG 2’ would’ve easily collected much, much more, if it hadn’t been released alongside a Tsunami called ‘Gadar 2’,” he tweeted.
Kadel said that ‘OMG 2’ has managed to withstand the ‘Gadar 2’ Tsunami and had a fantastic Independence Day collection at the box-office.
‘OMG 2’ is billed as a spiritual sequel, starring Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam.

Gadar 2 vs OMG 2 Box Office Day 5: Sunny makes history on Independence Day, Akshay’s film inches closer to Rs 100 crore
Despite having a major clash at the box office, Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel starrer Gadar 2 has been unstoppable. It has been creating waves ever since it arrived in theatres last Friday. It entered the Rs 100 crore club within the first three days of release and on Independence Day the film created history when its collection crossed Rs 200 crore. What’s an even bigger deal is that Sunny paaji’s film faced capacity issues because of the high demand on 15th August, not just at single screens but also at multiplexes.
In his latest post, trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared, “‘GADAR 2’ CREATES HISTORY ON INDEPENDENCE DAY… Highest-ever biz on *15 August*… Yes, #Gadar2 hits the ball out of the stadium on #IndependenceDay… Fri 40.10 cr, Sat 43.08 cr, Sun 51.70 cr, Mon 38.70 cr, Tue 55.40 cr. Total: ₹ 228.98 cr. #India biz… BLOCKBUSTER RUN continues.” He further imagined the collection Gadar 2 would have potentially made if it had not clashed with Akshay Kumar’s film OMG 2, which is giving the Sunny starrer a good competition.

Coming to OMG 2’s collection on day 5 at the box office– yes, the film would have done a lot better if it did not face the tough competition by Gadar 2.
But Akshay and Pankaj Tripathi’s comedy drama, which emphasizes the need of sex education in Indian schools, is doing pretty good on the ticket windows. Taran revealed, “#OMG2 is trending EXCEPTIONALLY WELL, the jump on #IndependenceDay is an EYE-OPENER… Fri 10.26 cr, Sat 15.30 cr, Sun 17.55 cr, Mon 12.06 cr, Tue 17.10 cr. Total: ₹ 72.27 cr. #India biz… #OMG2 is displaying strong legs at the #BO.” The film is slowly but steadily inching closer to the Rs 100 crore mark.
