Opposition parties gear up for crucial meeting, BJP on alert


The second meeting of the opposition will begin in Bengaluru on July 17. There is a 2-day program for which 24 parties have been invited. The first meeting of the opposition unity held in Patna, Bihar, yielded a partial result. Therefore, the agenda has been prepared for this second meeting. Looking at the agenda, a concrete decision will be taken regarding the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in this meeting.

According to the report, a meeting of opposition leaders will be held between 17-6 pm on July 8. This will be a formal meeting and a dinner for all opposition parties by the Chief Minister of Karnataka at 8 pm. On July 18, all meetings will begin at 11 am and continue till 4 pm. On behalf of the Congress party, President Mallikarjun Kharge, former Congress President Sonia, Rahul Gandhi, and KC Venugopal will attend the meeting.

What is the agenda of the meeting?

  • Drafting of a common minimum programme for the 2024 general elections.
  • Forming a sub-committee to prepare the communication points required for the alliance.
  • Forming a sub-committee to address party conferences, rallies and contradictions between the two parties.
  • Discuss the issue of seat sharing on a state-by-state basis.
  • Discuss the issue of EVMs and suggest reforms for the Election Commission.
  • Suggest a name for the alliance.
  • Setting up of a general secretariat for the proposed alliance.

Sharad Pawar-Mamata Banerjee will not come?

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and NCP Chief Sharad Pawar will not attend the Bengaluru meeting on July 17. These two leaders will not attend the dinner organized on the first day. After Mamata Banerjee’s recent knee surgery, doctors advised her to rest. She will participate in the meeting on July 18. However, Abhishek Banerjee will attend the dinner on behalf of the TMC on the first day. On the other hand, Sharad Pawar is scheduled to meet his MLAs in Mumbai on July 17, so he will also be unable to attend dinner in Bengaluru.
