According to Neil Druckmann, season 2 of The Last of Us will feature a Frank and Bill-style focus on a specific character.
The second season of The Last of Us is highly anticipated by the public and, according to recent statements by showrunner Neil Druckmann , it could propose an episode in the style of Bill and Frank , who appeared in the first.
Since it is one of the most popular episodes of the TV series based on the video game of the same name, the desire of the showrunner to follow this path and propose a similar narrative should not be surprising: but which characters could he involve this time?
The Last of Us 2: Neil Druckmann Teases Upcoming Frank and Bill-Style Story
When Ellie and Joel return to the small screen with the new episodes of The Last of Us , they will still be dealing with a sick world, brought to its knees by a powerful and mysterious virus whose cure seems to be still a long way off. During the first season, Ellie and Joel’s mission was to reach the laboratory to contribute to the search for the cure, since Ellie is immune to Cordyceps .
But, once there and having understood what Ellie was giving up in favor of humanity, Joel preferred to save the girl and run away. Regarding the second, still unreleased, the showrunner anticipated on Variety ‘s Strictly Business podcast that they could propose a new episode in the style of Frank and Bill. Citing the success of the episode, entitled A Long, Long Time , he revealed:
There are things about this season that I’m really excited about, things that we’ve only hinted at. One scene in particular comes to mind that I think fans of the game are going to love, because it really tells a lot about the backstory of this important character that we didn’t get to do in the game.
Druckmann didn’t reveal the character in question, of course, so as not to spoil too much, but, helped by co-showrunner Craig Mazin , the two tried to expand on some stories that were only hinted at in the video game, transforming them accordingly as happened with Bill and Frank.
In this regard, Druckmann recalled: “When you enter the game, Frank is no longer alive. So we only hinted at this relationship between these two men, while here we wanted to focus on it”. It is not clear which character the showrunner is referring to, but according to his words, the next season could delve into a story that was only hinted at in the video game.
